The Prevalence of Hydatid Cysts Infection in Ruminants Slaughtered in Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania

In the period January to May 1982 offal from ruminants slaughtered at two main abattoirs in Dar es Salaam were inspected for hydatid cysts. Hydatid cysts were recorded in 7.9% in cattle slaughtered at Tanganyika parkers LTD and 4.8% of sheep and goats slaughtered at Vingunguti slaughter house. Cysts were recovered from lungs, liver, spleen and heart in order of decreasing frequency. 14.7% and 16.0% of cysts from cattle and small ruminants respectively were fertile
